We are proud to partner with the New Jersey State Museum, The Children's Home Society and the Trenton Community Music School to present the 2016 Trenton Makes Words: Children's Art Zone!

Budding artists are our favorite kind. Working with the team from the New Jersey State Museum, The Children's Home Society and the Trenton Community Music School, children will be presented with the opportunity to create something out of the box that will both inspire and help mold the young artist in each of them! Parents are welcome to take part!

2017 information coming soon!

2016 listing of kids activities!

We will present a few hands-on objects from the NJSM teaching collection for children to touch along with an opportunity to create a pot that relates to Trenton city History as well as Lenape history (Using model magic – we will teach various techniques - coil, pinch and mold).

Children and families are encouraged to participate in an open family drum circle using percussion, recycled instruments, etc. as well as a Trenton Community Music School facilitator to present interactive music. Craft table to create recycled music makers such as shakers/jinglers.

An area where kids can look at art and music books and that will pair with a graphic novel activity - Kids will be be given a simple booklet with boxes and spaces to create a graphic novel asking them to tell us a story through images.

A Blank banner where children/families can use paint, markers and other media to tell a complete/ever evolving story.  Artists can add on top of existing images as the event runs and we will have a few artistically placed phrases on the banner to lead the drawings.  The final piece will be displayed at the Trenton Free Library.

SOLAR TREE by Rein Triefeldt - www.solartree.org
The Solar Tree Project involves Art, Education, Kids, Parents, Science, Nature and Technology.  The Project offers students an opportunity to participate and experience the creative process, while learning to research and communicate visually. The Project will plant the seeds for a creative future, while promoting the use of clean sources of energy. The Project will work to develop a channel for future generations to find solutions to the pollution of our planet thereby helping to reduce the “Greenhouse Effect”, mercury contamination, acid rain, deforestation, and a variety of nuclear energy hazards.  Using a variation in media, students will examine the relationships of esthetics, content, and technique in the development of their unique Solar Sculpture Project.
